Breastfeeding Help

Breastfeeding is natural, but it is also a learned skill.  Mothers may get discouraged when breastfeeding doesn't happen easily.  Many of us have thought, "If this is so natural, why am I having such a rough time?  What is wrong with me?"  There's nothing wrong with us.  We simply need time, patience and support to learn.  Just as walking is natural for people, our babies still have to learn how.  It is the same with breastfeeding.  It is natural, but we need to learn how to do it.

  This site provides clear and helpful evidence-based information on breastfeeding.

• www.breastfeeding.com  
  This site provides breastfeeding information and support.  This is where you can find the latest breastfeeding news and fashion, answers from experts, a message board, galleries, and a bit of humor.  The site includes photos and video clips of latch-on, positioning and more.  

• Baby Center  
  This comprehensive site offers tools, videos, articles, expert advice, bulletin boards, and live chats on a wide range of breastfeeding topics.    

• American Academy of Pediatrics:  A Woman's Guide to Breastfeeding
  This site provides a variety of resources to help families "initiate and continue breastfeeding."

• The National Women's Health Information Center
  This site offers helpful, practical breastfeeding information.  It also includes a helpline where you may speak to a trained Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.

• La Leche League International
  The La Leche League International is an organization with a mission "to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother."

  This site provides information on breastfeeding topics including common problems, latching on, positioning, frequency and duration of feedings, nutrition for mom and baby, and weaning.

• CDC Breastfeeding Information
  This site includes breastfeeding recommendations and advice based on data, statistics and research.

  "MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations."  This is where you can find the latest research articles on breastfeeding.

• ProMoM
  Promotion of Mothers Milk Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness and public acceptance of breastfeeding.  The site includes breastfeeding information and discussion forums.
