Eczema Help |
There are many triggers for childhood eczema.
Most of the time, a pediatric dermatologist will offer some sort of
fragrance free lotion and a hydrocortisone cream...at least that's
what the ones I visited did. However, it was when I started
experimenting on my own that I figured out the triggers for my
particular child. He had a hyper-sensitivity to synthetics.
I started to put 100% cotton blankets down on all of his polyester
seats and saucers. I dressed him only in cotton. I
purchased all natural balms and soaps from health food stores and
on-line. Once I eliminated the majority of synthetics in our
household, his eczema was under control. As I said in the
beginning, there are many triggers for childhood eczema.
Synthetics happened to be the trigger for my child. However,
since it wasn't ever brought up at the dermatologist, I wanted to
share the suggestion with all of the other suffering moms out there.
It's worth looking into if you're currently struggling with the
problem.

Make Your Windows and Mirrors Shine |
I have discovered a way to clean windows and mirrors without using
paper towels or newspaper. I use cloth diapers to wipe them
clean. It doesn't leave lint and they will shine like new.
Sometimes I don't even have to use window cleaner.

Buying Children's Books on a Budget |
Before buying books for your children, take a
trip to the library and share some books there. It isn't
always easy to predict which books will inspire your child.
Use your library visit to help determine which books are worth
buying for your collection at home.

Removing Rust from Vinyl |
To remove a rust stain from vinyl flooring, cut
a lemon in half and rub over the spot. Try adding some salt to
speed the process. If that fails, use the other half of the
lemon to make a Margarita!

Save a Step |
To save trips up and down stairs, have an
attractive container at the top and bottom. Place items in the
container as you find them. Then, when you have to go up or
down, all the items are ready to go with you.

Time-Saving Basket of Supplies |
I cut down on the time it takes to make "impromptu" trips by keeping
a basket of supplies in the trunk of my car (jackets, extra sippy
cups, sunscreen, diapers and the like). That way, if I need to
be somewhere else on the spur of the moment, be it the grocery store
or just a trip to the playground, I already have all the supplies
I'll need.- Lisa Madras

Traveling with a Toddler |
I have learned with my 3 year old to always have snacks and drinks
when we go on a trip. He also has a portable DVD player - a
lifesaver - that we strap onto the back of the front seat. It
keeps him busy for a good hour or so watching his favorite Thomas
movies. He has a coloring container with colors, a writing
pad, and stickers that keep him occupied. This makes for a
much easier trip to go see his older sister in college.

A New Use For Old Cassette Holders |
Display snapshots by using old cassette holders.
The cassettes are no longer used for current music. Rather
than throw them away, I have pictures all through my house.
