Cashier on her break
admiring Lucy asks,
“Can she have a treat?”

She offers to share
the cupcake she is holding
I say, “No, thank you.”

She looks dejected.
I feel uncomfortable.
“That was thoughtful, though.”

double ewww. again, me laughing at your once again silly but strange moments that i love so much.

i always love the strange offers that strangers want to give children. makes no sense.

also, why is it when a stranger or anyone for this matter, who wants to offer something or help someone and when they are refused, they make YOU/US feel uncomfy? it happened to me at the goodwill the other day….. guy helps me out after i said i didn’t need his assistance. i say to myself, ok, he wants to help. he starts unloading my bags into my car, not where i wanted them, ok, he’s still trying to help. then he starts to take my baby out of his stroller. i am now, mama bear and in mama bear mode. i say, “got it from here, thanks though”. luckily my stroller is a bit tricky to unlatch. then he’s trying to fold up my stroller. i am at this point like buddy, you can go home now. i mention, it’s a bit tricky, i got it. his defensive response, “ok, i was just trying to help”.

i’m thinking, what next? are you planning on driving me home, cooking me dinner and bathing the kids? my husband can use a massage, hell, so can i!

    Interesting cashier. Nice response, though.

I’m just curious if she were ever offered a cupcake from a stranger if she’d accept it?

Yeah, there is such a thing as being too nice.

I would have FREAKED OUT if someone tried to take my baby out of the stroller. What a weirdo!

I really felt bad for turning her down, because it really seemed to hurt her feelings. I actually contemplated telling a lie, like “Oh, she has allergies,” but thought better of it. Lying isn’t good. Plus, I’m not good at it. My luck, she’d have a follow up question that I couldn’t answer and I would’ve had to turn and run out of there.

The even weirder part is that she followed me around the store. She was working the register when we walked in and she spotted Lucy. Then, she went on her break and was walking to the back of the store when she ran into us, and she just sort of started following us around, talking and eating and offering my 9 month old treats.
