The Frenemy

by Leslie

she gives compliments
but they’re disingenuous
sugary insults

i am well aware
that her standards for me are
well below her own

it’s not subtle – her
self-superiority -
she wears it like clothes

we need to break up
my self-esteem’s not a snack
for her to nibble

Don’t let her nibble on you ever again my friend, if you can break up do it. You are worth more than that to us. xxx

Yeah! And your little dog too : )

Leslie, I love the new about section and “Linkies I Likey” is AWESOME!!!

I actually have a few of those in my life…very draining! There’s no way she’s funnier than you though so if you can’t break up with her (if she’s like mine then she’s also part of the family) imagine a posse of sock monkey’s attacking her while she spews her garbage. :)

    Kick her ass!

  5. Rachel on November 16, 2009 1:15 pm

You are getting more fierce by the day…and I like it!

  6. Jen in MI on November 16, 2009 5:47 pm

No kidding. I had someone like that in my life – and I don’t any longer.

Remember, though, her “stuff” probably stems from her own insecurity.

  7. German Girl on November 17, 2009 11:13 am

I so know what you mean. One just doesn’t need people like that to steal ones energy!

  8. Leslie on November 18, 2009 1:01 am

Thank you, Jacquie. you are so sweet!

The break-up is inevitable. I’ve endured it too long. I have to get out before I’m all eaten up and there’s nothing left!

Thanks! I’d been wanting to change the About page for a while. It doesn’t quite measure up to the vision I had in my head, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Ha ha! It isn’t likely I can break up completely and forever, amen. But I think I can sort of quietly fade into the background or something, because you are right – DRAINING!

I have a recurring dream where I do just that. I want to make it into an animated short film, but Dave doesn’t want to help me. I say it’s cheaper than therapy. Or bail.

  12. Goofball on November 18, 2009 2:37 am

    good conclusion!

  13. Leslie on November 18, 2009 9:28 am

    Yeah, I think it’s a good thing…I think.

  14. Leslie on November 18, 2009 9:29 am

I completely agree with you! And that makes it kind of sad, but unbearable still.

  15. Leslie on November 18, 2009 9:30 am

Especially when I’m already kind of low in the energy department.

  16. Leslie on November 18, 2009 9:31 am

Thinking it and doing it are two different things, though. I just hope I can see it through.

  17. kelly on November 18, 2009 5:27 pm

OMG! I totally am in love with this small quad of poems. You’ve captured something so real here!

  18. Leslie on November 24, 2009 1:18 am

Unfortunately is so real, because I’m experiencing it right now. Stupid frenemy.
