Dear First Grade Teacher,
by Leslie

how incredible she is
this girl in your class
brilliant and hilarious
so eager to please
she respects you already
you are the teacher
not just of her head, but her
heart and her spirit
for answers, validation
make her feel valued
underappreciated,
tired, underpaid
talking and not listening,
or picking her nose
is the dark spot in your day
she’s the light of mine
won’t you remember, you’ve got
my world in your class

You are brilliant. And I’m verklempt.
So amazing… you put into words what so many mamas are thinking and feeling. Good stuff, Leslie. =)
I think that’s EXACTLY what every mom feels when she sends her little ones off to school all day.
Beautiful Leslie!
Wow … I’m almost speechless, that was so moving.
Can I share that with my co-workers? Sometimes we need that reminder….
I’m a teacher (grade one!) and I say you win the haiku buckaroo contest.
I just read it to my partner- then burst into tears. You made my day
Wow, Leslie – this is brilliant. I mean REALLY brilliant. You should send this in to a newspaper or something similar. As a teacher, I’d keep this over my desk. SUCH a good reminder. Wow. Again, wow. (Um, yeah, I teach English. Isn’t that disheartening?)
I hope that the year is everything your first grader dreams it will be.
That was beautiful. It should be hung in every first grade classroom!
I agree w/Jen. That’s submission worthy.
Wonderful!
I’m behind but opened my reader, saw this and totally loved it. Loved, loved, loved it.
